As a community filled with diverse cultures and ethnicity, Boarding Life at Sandy Spring Friends School wants every student and staff to feel valued, heard, and supported. Have you seen our video that features some of our current international boarding students talking about their personal experiences with diversity at SSFS?

With these goals as our top priorities, we formed the Dorm Inclusion Committee.

The committee is comprised of one Boarding staff member and several student leaders that represent different countries and backgrounds. As one of our activities, we hosted a cultural celebration for all our students this month.

Our Boarding Life staff will participate in a Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Boot Camp both on and off-line. Dorm staff will also participate in an on-campus D&I training session facilitated by Marcelle Mentor, from Teachers College at Columbia University. Marcelle has a long-standing relationship with Sandy Spring Friends School and has worked closely with our staff in the past.

We also plan to launch multiple dorm affinity groups throughout the academic year and are actively seeking faculty leaders. If interested, please contact Khadija Rahim, Khadijatu.Rahim@ssfs.org.
