Knowing how to communicate well is one of the key factors in a successful life. Good communication strengthens relationships and career opportunities, and builds confidence. But when it comes to learning a foreign language, it's no easy task.

English has long been established as the universal language especially in business, international relations, and politics throughout the world. It is essential for every ambitious student to strive for English fluency if they wish to rise to prominence in this generation.

Here at Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS), we recognize both the importance of communication skills, and the challenges that face international students who are trying to learn English.  Mastering English requires more than studying from text books.  Students learning English are more successful when immersed in the practical use of the language on a daily basis, which is why Sandy Spring Friends School developed a summer program for English as a Second Language (ESL) students that combines learning, leadership, friendships, and fun led by native English speakers.

Students from all over the world learn to interact with each other in English on a daily basis as they study together. They grow as individuals, and develop not just new language skills, but also new  friendships and experiences while they travel as a group to major cities in the United States.  This practical and stimulating program accelerates language growth significantly, as well as boosting confidence that enables students to move forward in accomplishing their dreams.
