Find me on:

The Dorm Wellness Program kicked off in October with a 30-day challenge to get students to become more active, which includes regular workouts, and to start eating healthier.  Phase 1 was a big success, in part, because the kids thrived and showed great determination and resilience.

We are now in Phase 2, the discipline stage, which will test students mentally as well as physically. To stay the course, they’ll have to draw heavily on their self-motivation. I’m confident they’ll pull through.

Student-athletes experience a unique set of physical and emotional stresses. So, in conjunction with these fitness challenges, we are looking closely at the lifestyles of our athletes. To create awareness and foster support, we have scheduled a panel discussion in December to address some of the problems student-athletes face during their everyday lives. This will give the student-athletes a chance to listen to each other and share their similar and different struggles. Through these discussions, we hope to establish better lines of communication, understanding, and advocacy for all of our students.

Below are some mental health and general wellness tips provided to students during the winter so they can stay healthy during the darker, colder season:

  • Frequent hand washing
  • Drink water frequently
  • Stretch at least once per day
  • Sleep at least 8 hours
  • Practice meditation and relaxation
  • Eat more green and orange vegetables
  • Eat more fiber

Central to our Boarding Life curriculum, the Wellness Program will continue to evolve during the academic year.
